“THE HABITATION”

COMMENTARY

------------------------------------------------------------------

About this Study Course

This Study Course is designed to be used in conjunction with “The Habitation” commentary on the book of Ephesians.

This study course is the second in a series we will offer.  The first, titled “The Foundation,” is an in-depth study on the book of Romans.  In the book of Romans, Paul lays the foundation that every believer must be built upon, which is Christ-crucified.  In his epistle to the Ephesians, Paul gives his revelation of the “Church” Jesus said He would build upon the foundation.   In the first chapter of his epistle, Paul prays for those who would ever read it.  His prayer is, “…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe…” (Ephesians 1:17-19).  In his prayer, Paul lays out three things in the form of questions that he wants everyone who reads his epistle to understand.

      1. “…what is the hope of his calling?”

      2.  “…what is the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints?”

      3.  “…what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe?”

It will be very beneficial to every student of the word to also ask our heavenly Father for that same spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. Father, please open the eyes of our understanding so that we can see the wonderful mystery of Christ that is revealed in this epistle.

In each of the six chapters of this epistle Paul will bring us to see what I have called a “pinnacle of glory.”  These are glimpses of what the first church was, and what Jesus built His church to be.  They are also glimpses of what the Holy Ghost, working in each member of the body of Christ, will make the church to be today.  It is my prayer that you will be filled with the Spirit, which through His working in you will lift you up into those heavenly places in Christ Jesus where every spiritual blessing is found.

About this Study Course

The purpose of this Study Course is not to test your knowledge of theology, but to focus your attention on what the apostle Paul actually says in the book of Galatians.  After you have first studied all the verses of topic 1 (in the commentary) along with those verses in your Bible, then test yourself by finding the correct answer to each question about the verse or verses of scripture indicated in the question.  This is an “open Bible” test.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The answers to the questions in each Study Course LESSON, are found at the end of each particular LESSON.  There is also a list of the answers for all 12 of these LESSONS at the end of the STUDY COURSE.  If you would like to do a print out of the answers for all the lessons, you can go to the Complete Answer List, copy and paste the answers into your WORD processor, and do a print out.  To go directly to the Complete Answer List from this point:

Important Request from Brother Leroy Surface!

This study course is designed to be used in conjunction with “The Habitation” Commentary on the book of Ephesians.  Please take the time to prayerfully study each topic in the commentary, before taking the corresponding (lesson) test in the study course.  Some may have the intellectual ability to complete a lesson in one sitting, but those who do so will rob themselves of the blessings God has prepared for us in understanding the truth of God from our heart.  There are twelve lessons in this study course which correspond to the twelve “topics” of “The Habitation” commentary.  Please read the topic in the commentary prayerfully each day for about a week, before attempting to answer the test questions in the study course lesson.  If God opens your heart to understand, you will see and understand more each time you read the text.  To do this study correctly, should take about three months to complete all twelve of the lessons.  If you take the time to pray for understanding as you study, you will surely be rewarded in your spiritual walk and understanding.  May God bless you as you begin this wonderful journey through Paul’s letter written to the Ephesian church and to the church of Jesus Christ for all time.  It is my prayer that you will be “filled with the Spirit” and “lifted up,” by the Spirit, to “sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” where “all spiritual blessings” await you.

Brother and Pastor,

LESSON 1

That We Should Be

Ephesians chapter 1: verses 1 through 12

That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

Ephesians 1:12

Lesson one is a study on all that God did from the beginning, what He did at Calvary, and what He did through the working of the Holy Ghost to have a people whose very existence on earth would be “…to the praise of His glory.”  In these first twelve verses, Paul is speaking specifically of those Jews who received the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost, plus those Jews like himself who repented and received the Holy Ghost in the great revival that followed.  Paul considered himself the last and the least of those “who first trusted in Christ.”

The questions in this lesson will sometimes use the term “the first believers.” This refers to those Paul speaks of in verse twelve as “we…who first trusted in Christ.”  They were the “first” church; those upon whom the Holy Ghost was poured out and who “turned the world upside down” for Christ in their generation. Paul refers to them in these verses as “us” and “we.” Keep in mind that, though we speak of the “first believers,” the things spoken of in these verses are God’s purpose for everyone that believes.
