Endeavoring to publish 'the truth of the gospel' of Jesus, the Christ of God; Luke 9:20.

Some scripture verses concerning 'Freedom From Sin.'

The Truth, which Jesus says, Will Make You Free indeed (from sin).

John the apostle writes; Jesus speaking:

------------------

John 8:30-36

30 As he spake these words, many believed on him *(believed that He was the Christ)

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth *(the truth of the gospel of Christ, after His crucifixion; thus the need for them to continue in His Word that they might be partakers of the fulfilled promise), and the truth *(of the fulfilled promise) shall make you *(and all those who believe the promise) free *(from sin).

33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?;' *(Jesus then gives them the sin test.)

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.'

35 And the servant *(of sin) abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free *(from sin), ye shall be free indeed.

------------------

Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles, says in; Romans 6:1-2, 6-7, 11, 12, 14, 18, 22 below:

Romans 6:1-2'

1' What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

2' God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

6' Knowing this, that our old man is crucified *(dead; died) with him *(on the cross, in His; the body of Jesus, the Christ), that the body *(of sin - [G4983 - as a sound whole] JDG - the apostle Paul is not speaking here of the physical body, but of the whole; the entirety) of sin *(both the act and the nature [which is the root cause of all sinful acts] which all mankind is born with) might *(would) be destroyed *(Strong's #G2673 - To be [or to render] entirely idle [or, useless] literally or figuratively [JDG - was, totally stilled in all those who believe the truth of the gospel]), that henceforth we should not *(would not; could not; cannot) serve sin *(Strong's #G1398 - be a slave to; literally or figuratively; voluntarily or involuntarily [be enslaved to - JDG]).

7' For he that is dead is freed from sin.

11' Likewise reckon *(G3049 - conclude) ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

12 'Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, *(The two words, let not, in this twelfth verse are a colossal mistake made by the KJV translators. These two words totally destroy the gospel message of all the previous eleven verses. We of ourselves, cannot let not, cannot keep sin from reigning in our hearts, which is the reason Christ came to 'take away the sin' of the world. that you should obey it in the lusts thereof. [John 1:29])

This is an excerpt from JDG Message, 'LET NOT OR LEST?.'

*(The first eleven verses of Romans 6, Romans 6:1-11; are pure unadulterated gospel. It is a complete, finished work, a finished gospel, which Jesus, the Christ has done for us; John 19:30. The finished work of Calvary is all we could ever need, and the only thing that ever will, make us free from sin. It only needs to be coupled with faith to be activated [Psa 95:7-11; Hebrews 3:16-19; 4:1-6].' Then comes verse 12, Romans 6:12; LET NOT, and puts all the work of NOT being a sinner, back on us.' But we can't, LET NOT.' If we could, we wouldn't need Jesus and that which He accomplished through His death on Calvary. So what happened? Why, suddenly, does the message change? It took a little searching, but I know without a doubt that I found the answer to this question.

Let me first say, I am not a Greek scholar and know very little about the Greek language. I am blessed, however, to be living in the age of computers and to have access to the wonderful works of some brilliant men who were Greek scholars. One of these men is Dr. James Strong, S.T.D., LL.D. We highly recommend that every student of the Word have a Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, which works in conjunction with the King James Version of the Bible and includes both the [New Testament] Greek and the [Old Testament] Hebrew Dictionaries.

The first thing I did was to check out verse 12 in all the English translations on my computer Bible program. There are at least two dozen versions. I always do this to see how the various translators deal with a particular word or verse. Usually one or more translations will agree with what I believe to be correct; but not in this case. EVERY translation basically said, LET NOT.

Next I went to my Strong's Exhaustive Concordance. I discovered that the Greek word which was translated LET NOT was G3361 in Strong's Concordance and the Strong's Greek Dictionary gave the definition as: 'a primary particle of qualified negation; (adverbially) NOT, (conjunctionally) LEST; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer) whether.' In this, I confirmed that, as with many of our English words, Greek words can also have different meanings and can be used in different ways.

Then, for those like myself who may not have been strong in Grammar, I looked up conjunction in 'The American Heritage Dictionary.' It says, conjunction means 'the act of joining.' In other words, a conjunction is a word that ties two thoughts or phrases together.' I'm sure most anyone adept in English already knows this.

Again, as most Bible scholars will know, the original texts did not have verse numbers, punctuation marks, or, the words' of Christ in red.' All of these were added many centuries later by persons other than the original writers, and have been a great blessing to all who study the Bible ever since.'

[At this point I had began to see something I already knew to be true. Verses 11 and 12 should read like this:)

Verse 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord,

Verse 12 Let not *(LEST; JDG) sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

*(Praise God!' Verse 12 doesn't destroy the gospel of the previous verses at all, but rather, confirms it.' For outside of faith [believing in] the faith [the true gospel] of Jesus Christ [the true gospel of Him], sin will reign in your mortal body.

I didn't stop my search at this point, but everywhere I checked, what I had discovered was confirmed. 'Thayer's' simply gave the definition of the Greek word as no, not, and lest while 'Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words' gave the definition as: 'a negative particle, often used as a conjunction, (and) is frequently translated 'lest.' Everywhere I checked there was at least one definition of the word as 'lest.' So it wasn't as though the translators didn't know this. Also, none of the popular commentators I checked offered any objection to the translation, but simply went about giving their comments on what they all, evidently, accepted as correct. How is it then that they all missed what must be the correct translation, and in so doing, they have [whether knowingly or unknowingly] participated in obliterating the power of the true gospel of Jesus Christ? I believe the answer as to why men would do this is addressed by the Apostle Paul in the scripture verses below:)

Romans 6:14, 18, and 22 further enforce the truth and the fact that, under the New Covenant, we are made free from sin.

14  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

18  Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

22  But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end *(result of being made free from sin is) everlasting life. *(to the contrary, ''the wages of sin is death;' Romans 6:23)

I Corinthians 1:17-21

17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching *(the [true] gospel of Christ; Mark 16:15) to save them that believe *(it).

Romans 1:16

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth *(it); to the Jew first, and also to the Greek *(i.e., all the Gentiles).

Romans 6:14, 18, 22

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end *(result is) everlasting life.

------------------

John the apostle says in; I John 3:6, 8-9; and 5:18 below:

6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy *('G3089 - to loosen' - i.e., to be made free from; JDG) the works of the devil.

9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his *(God's) seed *(Christ) remaineth in him *(the true believer): and he *(the true believer) cannot sin, because he *(the true believer) is born of God.

5:18 We know that whosoever is born *(G1080 - procreated; regenerated) of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten *(Same Greek word; G1080 - procreated; regenerated) of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

------------------

While Jude tells us in Jude 1:24:

24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

------------------

And Peter says in I Peter 2:24; 4:1 and II Peter 2:14 below:

I Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed *(from the curse of sin; Isaiah 53:5, 10-12; God healed his people [physically] under the Old Covenant).

I Peter 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind *(''I am crucified with Christ''; Galatians 2:20): for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

------------------

II Peter 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

------------------

And again; the Apostle Paul stands for the truth of the gospel in the face of all opposition:

Galatians 2:5, 14

5' To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

14' But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

*(If left unchallenged, the smallest infractions will soon lead to greater degeneration. Oh! For men and women of God that would stand for 'the truth of the gospel' TODAY.)

Colossians 1:5

5' For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

A Brief Study About the Cross

Which term is scripturally correct?

1 The message of the Cross?

2 The message of the Christ?

3 The gospel of the Cross?

4 The gospel of the Christ?

If you chose the latter you are correct. It is 'the gospel of the Christ' (Luke 9:20)

'which we endeavor to preach to all the world (Mark 16:15).

------------------------------------------------

The word message is used only three times in the New Testament; KJV.' In it's first usage, the Greek word is G4242, and is akin to the word ambassador, or embassage; a message or commission entrusted to an ambassador.

Luke 19:14 'But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this [man] to reign over us.

The other two usages are in the First Epistle of John and are very close to the meaning of 'gospel' and are probably referring to the 'kingdom of God' of which Jesus taught, and preached, and was.

I John 1:5 'This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

The Greek word translated message in I John 1:5; above is G1860 *(and means); an announcement; a divine assurance of good;

I John 3:11' For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

In I John 3:11, above; the word message, which John uses is G31 *(and means) an announcement [by implication] precept) and should be considered portions of the broader gospel message [the 'good news of our redemption through Jesus, the Christ,' G2098], although John never uses the latter Greek word in any of his writings.

------------------------

We began this study by copying every verse where the word cross is used in the New Testament, KJV.' We then deleted the most repetitious verses.' The cross as mentioned in the following four verses deal with the literal cross which Jesus would bear (along with our sins and sin) and die upon.

John 19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

John 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

John 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

John 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the *(day of) preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

The cross, used by Jesus in the following four verses, deal with the persecutions and physical sufferings that those who would follow Him would endure for the sake of Him and His gospel. Of the original twelve apostles only Peter, as far as I know, literally died on a cross, and upside down of his own choosing.

Matthew 10:38 'And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Matthew 16:24 'Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Mark 10:21 'Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Luke 14:27 'And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

The cross is an integral part of the gospel of Christ but it must never, in any way, share equal or greater importance than 'Christ.'' It seems that in the scriptures, 'our cross' is in sharing, with Christ, the persecution of proclaiming the true gospel of Him; whatever that may entail. Even if that persecution comes down to literally dying on a cross, or by any other means for Him and His gospel's sake.' Nevertheless, if that turns out to be the case, then so be it.

I Corinthians 1:17-18

17' For Christ sent me not to baptize *(with water), but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.' *(So what is this effect of the cross, of which the apostle Paul speaks, that the wisdom of words causes to be ineffective?)

18' For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish *(all who are yet lost; all who are yet of this world) foolishness; but unto us ' *(who) are saved it is the power of God.' *(The question that must be ask at this point is; 'The power of God' to do what?' Primarily it is to express metaphorically, the crucifixion [i.e., death] of our old man of sin, our old sin nature [which is in fact the nature of the serpent] which Jesus bore to the cross in [union with] himself; as he stood in the gap for us [Romans 6:6 below; Ezekiel 22:30; Genesis 22:8; Hebrews 1:1-3].)

-----------------------------------------

Romans 6:1-12

1' What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

2' God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

3' Know ye not, that so *(or as) many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ *(NOT into water!) were baptized into his death?

4' Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into *(His) death: that like as *(just as) Christ was raised ' from the dead by the glory of the Father *(which is the Holy Ghost), even so we also should *(would) walk in newness of life.

5' For if we have been planted *(buried) together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also *(or, also be) in the likeness of his resurrection:

6' Knowing this, that our old man *(our old sin nature [which is simply the nature of the serpent which all mankind inherits because of Adam's transgression] was, and) is crucified with *(Greek #4957 - to impale in company with; literally or figuratively: [to be crucified with]) him *(Jesus, the Christ), that the body *(the apostle Paul is not speaking here about the physical body, but about the whole, the entirety, the very root) of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

7' For he that is dead *(crucified with Christ) is freed from sin.

8' Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

9' Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; *(because) death *(which is the end; the result; or 'the wages of sin;' Romans 6:23) hath no more dominion over him *(Jesus, who [was and] is sinless, and those who [were and] are crucified with Him; which is every person on this planet who can and will believe the true gospel of Him).

10' For in that he died, he died unto sin once *(to save us from sin): but in that he *(and all those who are of and in Him) liveth, he liveth unto God *(John 14:20; Colossians 3:1-3).

11' Likewise reckon *(consider; count) ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

*(In verse 12 [below] the great truth of the preceding 11 verses has been snatched from us by bible translators. The Greek word translated 'Let not' should have been translated Lest' in this verse.' We have this error today because unbelieving translators [no matter what they may have professed to believe] could not bring themselves to believe the actual truth of the preceding 11 verses.' Therefore they chose to be influenced by that [which by that time, was long established precedent or tradition] to go with the words, 'Let not','' instead of 'Lest'.'' In their error, they, and as many as continue to believe this error, do also continue the struggle to 'Let not sin therefore reign in' [our] mortal bodies, 'that we should obey it in the lust thereof.' The truth of the matter is, sin will reign in our mortal bodies, and we will struggle with it [sin], until we hear, see, and believe the truth of what the original writer [the apostle Paul] actually meant in this twelfth verse.)

12' Let not *(Translated here from G3361 which, like most words in the English language has more than one meaning. It can also be translated conjugationally, as I believe it should be, as lest. It then ties this concluding verse, to the preceding verses. i.e., Lest) sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. *(This twelfth verse simply draws the conclusion of NOT believing the previous eleven verses.' Please read the remainder of Romans 6:13-23.)

-----------------------------

Galatians 5:11' And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision *(which was the customary religious thing to do in those days and yet is in some religions; along with many other customs and traditions of men), why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased. *(Where there IS NO offence, there is NO persecution in preaching a cross that does not bring an end to the old man of sin. This is WHY the cross of Christ is so offensive to some. They do not want to be 'free from sin,' but rather, want to believe that they will go to heaven in spite of their sin. On the other hand, those who long to be free from their 'old man of sin,' embrace the cross with open arms, even if it does bring persecution. This is the difference between those who preach the truth of the gospel of Christ, that makes free from sin; and the preaching of 'another gospel' and another cross that does not bring an end to 'the old man of sin;' and therein, brings NO persecution. It is a fact that when the righteousness of Christ and of God the Father is seen in a person, it will bring the persecution of the world. The world hates the RIGHTEOUSNESS and HOLINESS that is in GOD and His Son, Jesus, the Christ, and all that pertain to them. Therefore, anyone who exhibits godliness, i.e., righteousness, and holiness is subject to the persecution of the world [John 15:20 and so many more].

There is an old saying 'Go along to get along,' which is always the easiest way, especially in this case; because there IS an offence in Jesus Christ and His cross, and the truth as it is in Him, where SIN and THE DEVIL were defeated.' Why wouldn't the devil persecute those who would declare the truth of the gospel of Jesus the Christ against him?' Therefore, as always, it is easier to go with the flow; but God will judge those who do such things, whether male and female.)

Galatians 6:12' As many as desire to make a fair shew *(show; JDG) in the flesh, ' constrain you to be circumcised *(as well as to be baptized in water, and/or, anointed with oil, and/or so many other customs and traditions of men; including other carryovers from the law of Moses [Colossians 2:14; below] in that, IT [the cross] was an instrumental part in the shedding of Jesus' blood and taking His natural, physical life from Him. These things the sacrificial Lamb of God suffered that we who can and will believe, can and will be saved and made absolutely free from sin; and in that, made partakers of God's eternal LIFE); only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

Galatians 6:14' But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, *(by which and) by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. *(There is absolutely no worldly pull on those, who understand and believe, that they are crucified with Him.)

Ephesians 2:16' And that he might reconcile both *(Jew and Gentile) unto God in one body *(the natural, physical body of Jesus, the Christ [to create one body of believers, i.e., His church]) by the cross, having slain the enmity *(the division between the Jew and the Gentile) thereby:

Philippians 2:8' And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the *(despised) death of the cross.

How true all these things are of which we have just discussed; but I must point out that in the following verse, the word THINGS, which is used three times, are translator added words which should NOT have been added in these three particular places.' The apostle Paul is NOT speaking in Colossians 1:20 of THINGS, but, of human beings and their souls.' I have replaced those three words in the verse with three ellipses *(').' Please read the following verse with the understanding that there should NOT be an added English WORD used where these three ellipses are.

Colossians 1:20' And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him *(Jesus, the Christ) to reconcile all ' *(mankind) unto himself *(God, the Father); by him *(Jesus, the Christ), I say, whether they be ' in earth, or ' in heaven.

Philippians 3:18-19

18' (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: *(Even thought they may magnify the cross in everything they do and say; they will not give it [the cross] credit for the one most important thing that it did. That being the crucifying OUR old MAN of SIN; the sin nature, the nature of the serpent; in union with Jesus Christ that all who believe it may enjoy the benefit of being 'made free from sin' in 'this present evil world;' not just someday after we are 'caught away' to ever be with the Lord. If that be the case, I fear that those who have not already been made free from sin, may not be caught away; Revelation 21:7-8; 20:14; Galatians 5:19-21.)

19' Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things *[the things of this world].)

Colossians 2:14' Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances *(the law of Moses' and all other religious laws, ordinances and traditions of men) that ' *(were, and are) against us, which was *(and are) contrary to us, and took it *(the law of Moses and all other men's religious laws) out of the way, nailing it *(the law of Moses' and them; all the other religious laws of men) to his *(Jesus') cross;

But now:

Hebrews 12:2' Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our FAITH *(which is the complete, true gospel of Jesus, the Christ); who for the joy that was set before him *(that being the salvation of all those who can and will believe the gospel of Him) endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Yes, there is an offence in the cross, but to the truly born again Christian, it's because of Jesus, the Christ, who is manifested not only in testimony; but in their lives:

John 15:20 'Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.'' *(Anyone and/or anything that has to do with Jesus Christ and the true gospel of Him; the one who made an end of sin and sins; Daniel 9:24, IS subject to persecution.)'

Nonetheless, the cross without Jesus Christ was, and is, absolutely NOTHING but a piece or pieces of wood.' The same goes for all other crosses, whatever they may be made of.' Though they be made of the most precious of metals, set with the most precious of stones, which many choose to wear upon their bodies and/or display in other settings.' Spiritually speaking they are all NOTHING in the eyes of God concerning salvation or anything else. Regardless of this, I see many people wearing such that appear (to me) to be in great need of salvation.' JDG
